          With no weather-related postponements—for a change—the 37th Annual Convention of the Diocese of Southeast Florida will be held Nov. 17 and 18 at St. Benedict’s, Plantation, hosted by the Broward Deanery. Registration is online at www.diosef.org/register.html. Reservations for the Convention banquet, which will be held Friday evening, Nov. 17, at the Renaissance Fort Lauderdale-Plantation Hotel, 1230 South Pine Island Rd., Plantation, are available as part of convention registration; seating is limited, so anyone planning to attend the banquet should register as soon as possible.

          Hotel accommodations will be at the Sheraton Suites Plantation, 311 North University Drive, Plantation. Call the hotel directly at 954-424-3300 to make your reservation.

          The theme of Convention is “…And your neighbor as yourself”. The preacher at the Eucharist will be the Rt. Rev. John Lipscomb, bishop of Southwest Florida, who is expected to address the ways in which the two dioceses can work together to seek just and decent living and working conditions for agricultural workers in Florida.

Anti-Racism Training--The Diocesan Anti-Racism Commission is again offering the Anti-Racism Training mandated by General Convention 2000 for all clergy, staff and lay leaders as a step toward ending institutional and other forms of racism. Two workshops have been scheduled: Nov. 11, 2006, at Trinity Cathedral, Miami, and Apr. 28, 2007, at St. Paul’s, Delray Beach. Both workshops are from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The cost for the workshop is $10, which includes continental breakfast, lunch and all workshop materials. Because the date is so close, we are unable to offer online registration for the Nov. 11 workshop; to register, contact Gay Outler at 305-621-3751 or 954-987-6696 or gayoutler@bellsouth.net . “Groundwork”--The 2007 installment of "Groundwork" evangelism resources--offering congregations a Year C Lenten guide for study and action--will soon be posted online and mailed to congregations churchwide. Human Needs grants--The deadline for submitting applications for diocesan Human Needs grants is Nov. 30. Grant applications can be downloaded from http://www.episfoundation.org/grant_app.html#3

Journey to Adulthood training—Training for those who want to work with the J2A youth program will be offered Dec. 1 from 7-9 p.m. and Dec. 2 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at St. Stephen’s, Miami. This is not two separate trainings, but one course that starts Friday night and concludes on Saturday. There are no overnight accommodations. The cost is $25, which includes lunch on Saturday. Registration will be online.

Christmas Ball—Youth in grades 9-12 are invited to a diocesan Christmas Ball at chapel of St. Andrew, Boca Raton, on Dec. 16, beginning with dinner at 5 p.m. The cost is $10 per person with reservations or $15 at the door. The dress code is semi-formal. Invitations with complete details have been mailed to all rectors, youth ministers and youth leaders. Bishop’s Spring Conference 2007—Save the dates for the Bishop’s Spring Conference—“The Magnetic Church”, presented by Andrew Weeks, Feb. 16-17, 2007, at the Duncan Center. This is a two-day conference, beginning on Friday afternoon; participants should plan to attend the entire event. Registration will be online at www.diosef.org/register.html . The registration deadline is Feb. 12; late registrations and walk-ins will be accepted only if space is available. The cost per person is $40 and includes refreshments and lunch on Saturday. Ecumenical conference on poverty in Latin America--A conference on reducing poverty, disease and death in Latin America on Saturday, November 18, 9 am to 3:30 pm at St Thomas University, Miami Gardens, FL. "Being a Good Neighbor: Overcoming Poverty, Disease and Debt in Latin America, An Ecumenical Conference for Grassroots Advocacy through the Church" features Bishop Thomas Wenski, Diocese of Orlando and Chair of the International Policy Committee of the USCCB, Fr. Andrew Small, USCCB International Policy Advisor, Eugene Nyambal, Latin American Economic Specialist with the World Bank, and Romulo Torres, Jubilee Peru. The conference is open to persons of faith, conscience and goodwill. It is sponsored by the Florida Council of Churches in cooperation with the Center for Justice and Peace at St Thomas University. More information is available at www.floridachurches.org.

UNCSW delegates wanted--Women interested in participating in the Episcopal Church’s delegation to the 51st United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW), meeting Feb. 26 through Mar. 9, 2007, in New York City, are asked to apply by Nov. 15 to the office of Women’s Ministries.  Delegates experience the commission’s work through meetings at the UN and numerous parallel events and caucuses. All Saints Appeal—Episcopal Women’s History Project—During the month of November the Episcopal Women’s History Project invites participation in its All Saints Appeal--an opportunity to give thanks for the women who have supported us along the way and who have made vital contributions to the Christian story. Donations made in honor of women living and deceased will be used to support the various ministries of the Episcopal Women’s History Project. The names of all women honored, along with a brief biographical sketch, will be published in the project’s newsletter, TIMELINES.  Click here for a form for submitting names. 2007 calendars needed--The Seamen's Church Institute of New York and New Jersey is collecting
and distributing 2007 calendars to seafarers. Episcopalians are encouraged to save 2007 calendars they receive in the mail or from local businesses. The Institute will collect these calendars--from pocket to wall size--from now until the end of January 2007. Calendars should be mailed to: The Rev. Non-Violence Training—Episcopal Peace Fellowship offers a three-day training retreat on active non-violence called Creating a Culture of Peace. The training can be provided for a parish or for any church organization. EPF is especially interested in offering this training for communities of color; low-income/marginalized communities; and youth/young adult groups.
