Men's Retreat—There’s still time to register for the diocesan Men's Retreat, Mar. 7-9 at Lake Placid Retreat Center in Lake Placid, Fl. The theme is: "To all things there is a season"; the keynote speaker is Bishop Frade. Cost is $85. Register and pay online at www.diosef.org/register, or for a registration form, contact the Broward office of the diocese, 954-450-7247, or one of the following: George Booth (St. Joseph's, Boynton Beach), 561-738-0554; Ray Talbird (St. John's, Homestead), 305-389-1058; Carlos Belgrave (St. Christopher's, West Palm Beach), 561-668-1960; or Wilton Gray (Holy Sacrament, Hollywood), 954-450-7147.

Journal--The long-awaited Diocesan Journal of Convention 2002 is in the mail-one copy to each clergyperson and each parish office! It will also be accessible online shortly; we'll let you know when it's available.

Wardens' & Treasurers' Conference--Rectors will soon receive information about the annual Wardens' & Treasurers' Conference, Mar. 22 at Trinity Cathedral. The cost is $9 for lunch (note change from previously announced $8.50). Register (and pay, too) online. Copies of the Manual of Business Methods will not be distributed this year. Each parish should now have as many as seven copies from previous workshops. If you cannot find a copy in your parish office, call Episcopal Parish Services at (800) 903-5544 to order one.

Mileage rate—According to IRS regulations, the 2003 standard rate for reimbursement for mileage (for supply clergy, or any other employee who receives such reimbursement) is 36 cents per mile.

Services of Prayer for Peace—In keeping with Bishop Frade’s call for a Season of Prayer and Fasting for Peace, there will be two services of prayer for peace on Mar. 23. Bishop Ottley will preach at a 4 p.m. service at Holy Trinity, West Palm Beach, which will also feature music by Holy Trinity's senior choir. Each participating parish is encouraged to select a young person from its congregation to bring to the altar a symbol of peace. Bishop Frade will be celebrant and the Rev. Marilyn Usher Hardy, director of Episcopal AIDS Ministry, will preach at a 5 p.m. service at Trinity Cathedral. That service will also be part of the traditional series of Joint Lenten Services shared by parishes in Miami-Dade County.

Joint Lenten Services—The schedule for the Joint Lenten Services in the North and South Dade deaneries is: Mar. 9, Holy Family; Mar. 16, Transfiguration; Mar. 23, Trinity Cathedral (noted above); and Apr. 6, Historic St. Agnes. All services begin at 5 p.m.

An Ash Wednesday ideaFr. Frank Corbishley has noted that in the Liturgy for Ash Wednesday, the Prayer Book’s rubric (p. 264) “directs us to begin the liturgy with the Salutation and the Collect of the Day, and then omits the Salutation”. He also notes that there’s plenty of space on that page, so he’s printing the Salutation on address labels and pasting them in the proper place in all the pew copies of the Prayer Book at Chapel of the Venerable Bede.

Understanding Your Teenager--St. Thomas, Miami, is hosting a seminar for parents-and anyone else who would like to have better relationships with the teenagers in their lives-on Sunday, Apr. 6, from 1-4 p.m. The speaker is Wayne Rice, co-founder of Youth Specialties, and author of books and materials for parents, teens and youth workers. Cost for the seminar is $8 per person or $12 for couples. For information, contact Phebe Hisbhman, youth ministry coordinator at St. Thomas, 305-661-3436, or email phebe@stepsmia.org.

Holy Week Clergy Day/Blessing of the Oils--The annual Holy Week Clergy Day and Blessing of the Oils will be Tuesday, Apr. 15, beginning at 10 a.m., at Trinity Cathedral. The guest speaker will be the Very Rev. Titus L. Presler, dean and president of the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Tex., and chair of the Standing Commission on World Mission.

Good Friday Offering--Please remember that the Good Friday offering in all Episcopal congregations is to be designated, as it has been for the past 61 years, for the Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East. (This is not to be confused with the Jerusalem 2000 appeal, which was designed to support specific institutions and projects within the Diocese of Jerusalem.) A bulletin shell and a poster, as well as other information on the Good Friday Offering, are available at http://www.episcopalchurch.org/agr/friday.html. If your parish does not take an offering on Good Friday, you are asked to designate the offering from another service during Holy Week for this purpose.

Women's Retreat--This year, Holy Sacrament, Pembroke Pines, is opening its Women's Retreat to all women of the diocese. The retreat is May 2-4 at the Lake Placid Conference Center and Resort, site of the Diocesan Men's Retreat. Speakers include Père Maud Paraison, rector of Intercession, Ft. Lauderdale, Susan Beebe of Crossridge Church and Rose Williams of Holy Sacrament. Cost is $85. For more information, call the church office at 954-432-8686, and ask for the Women's Retreat Coordinators.

Graduating Seminarians—Our diocese has 10 seminarians who will graduate this spring! Archdeacon Paul Rasmus, our diocesan deployment officer, has asked rectors to contact him (561-656-0868 or paul@diosef.org) if they are looking for an assistant and would be interested in talking with any of these persons. We’re all asked to keep them in our prayers as they complete their studies and seek a call to begin their ordained ministry. Here are their names and their seminaries: Gail Abbott (General); Virginia Brewer (Sewanee); Thomas Bruttell (Berkeley at Yale); Thomas Dwyer (Berkeley at Yale); Darrell Laremore (Seminary of the Southwest); Scot McComas (General); Christopher Schuller (Episcopal Divinity School); Terrence Taylor (Berkeley at Yale); Regina Walsh-Minor (General); and Bruce Woodcock (General).

Youth at General Convention—Youth ages 14-18 are invited to participate in a youth gathering, “Count Me Faithful”, at General Convention in Minneapolis, Minn., July 30-Aug.3. For more information, go to: http://www.episcopalchurch.org/myp/countfaithful/index.htm, or contact Diocesan Youth Missioner Fr. Reggie Payne-Wiens at the Diocesan Office, 1-800-268-9993 or 305-373-0881, or by email, reggie@diosef.org.
