A message from Bishop Frade as Hurricane Ivan approaches

September 10, 2004

Dearly beloved:

As we watch and prepare for the approach of Hurricane Ivan, I want all of you to know that we are surrounded by the prayers of people throughout the Church. All of us in Florida are weary and anxious after the ordeals of the past month, but God is still in control and will be with us. Our Creator will continue defending us from all perils and dangers that may come our way.

I am proud of the generous response of our diocese to the needs of our neighbors in Southwest Florida after Hurricane Charley, and of the way our congregations—especially those that sustained damage--have been able to assist their parishioners and other people in need since Hurricane Frances. I count on you to continue to respond with generosity and compassion to those in our own diocese, as well as our neighbors in Florida and wherever else Hurricane Ivan may strike.

Please pray with me that all along the path of this hurricane may be protected. Diana and I are praying for the safety of all our families and parishioners. May God watch over every one of us throughout this difficult time, and may we rejoice in thanksgiving in the days to come, grateful for our Lord’s protection and love.

Blessings,

+Leo
