Notes from the
Episcopal 73rd General Convention in Denver
July 12, 2000

Yesterday, this House of Deputies narrowly defeated a resolution that called for the drafting of rites that would express "support" for "lifelong committed relationships" other than marriage.

Last night Bp. Schofield hosted a dinner at the Oxford Hotel, one of the oldest in Denver, for our deputation, ECW delegates, Spanish translators and all the others from our diocese who are at General Convention. Bp. Frade and his wife joined the nearly 50 people who gathered for what seemed a diocesan family dinner away from home.

On behalf of the group, Communications Officer Mary Cox presented to both Bp. Schofield and Bp. Frade framed prints of a work by calligrapher Michael Podesta: "Behold, I make all things new." This is a time of new beinnings for both the bishops and the diocese. Photo by John Stokes
